Armed police called to housing estate after man stabbed in fight

Armed police descended on a housing estate after a man was stabbed during a fight on Bank Holiday Monday.

Cops rushed to Thorburn Drive in Whitworth near Rochdale at 4.25pm after initial reports a man was armed with a gun.

But police then received a further report of a fight between two men, LancsLive reports.

One man was stabbed in the incident. His wounds are described as 'minor'.

He was also taken to hospital for treatment to a head injury.

Paint had also reportedly been poured on the front of a property during the same incident.

Police say a woman in her 20s, from Whitworth, was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and is in custody.

Eye witnesses reported seeing officers along both Eastgate and Wallbank as they dealt with the incident.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We were called around 4.25pm yesterday (Monday, April 5) to a report a man was holding a suspected firearm in Thorburn Drive, Whitworth.

"Police then received a further report of a fight between two men, with one man suffering minor stab and head injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

"During the same incident it was reported paint had been poured on the front of a property. A woman in her 20s, from Whitworth, was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and is in custody.

"An investigation is underway and enquiries ongoing."
