Armed police were called to a busy road in Newport after a man was reportedly seen with a knife.
Gwent Police said officers were called to Commercial Road in the Pill area of Newport at 1.45pm to reports of a man holding what was believed to be a knife.
Police remain the area as a precaution and enquiries are still ongoing.
A police spokesman said: "Officers are responding to reports of a man in Commercial Street in Newport who has been seen with what was believed to be a knife.
"Armed officers are in the area as a precaution and enquiries are currently ongoing.
"We’d ask anyone with information about this incident or if anyone has any concerns, please speak to an officer in the area or call 999 quoting Log 261 29/11/19."
