Armed police called to A48M Eastern Avenue in Cardiff as they hunt wanted man

Armed police were called to a major road in Cardiff on Sunday as they investigated an assault.

One lane of the A48M Eastern Avenue was closed at around 3.30pm near the St Mellons junction.

South Wales Police said officers executed a number of arrest enquiries regarding a man wanted in connection with an assault which was reported earlier in the day in the Roath area.

A spokesman said firearms officers were sent as a precaution "in support of officers to ensure their safety".

Traffic officers were at the scene and motorists were urged to proceed with care. The road was later reopened.
