Armed police called as three injured during 'violent burglary' in Bridgend

Three people have been injured following a violent burglary which reportedly saw a knife being used.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Tremgarth, Wildmil, Bridgend around 1.10pm on Sunday, October 24, following reports of a stabbing.

Given the serious nature of the report, armed police and a helicopter were deployed.

Two men were taken to hospital for treatment. A third man did not require treatment.

Police have confirmed a 27-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man were arrested and remain in custody.

A local resident said: "I heard the helicopter circulating and the sirens so knew it was serious."

Scenes of crime officers were still in the street some three hours after the incident.

An eyewitness said: "If it weren't for the police presence of cars and vans between a triad of flats, there would be no hint of anything out of the ordinary occurring."

South Wales Police confirmed that an investigation was underway and detectives are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

A force spokeswoman said: "Two people have been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary following an incident in Bridgend earlier today.

"Police were called to reports of an assault in Tremgarth, Wildmill, at 1.10pm.

"Two men were taken to hospital for injuries described as neither non-life threatening nor life changing. A third man did not require hospital treatment.

"A 27-year-old woman and 36-year-old man were arrested in Tremgarth and remain in police custody.

"Armed police were deployed as a precaution. It is believed a weapon was used during the incident and enquiries are on-going to establish the exact circumstances.

"Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact South Wales Police quoting *373297.
