Armed police called as dog bites four people at Cardiff house

A dog was destroyed after it bit four people – including three members of the same family – during an incident which sparked an armed police response.

Two men, a woman, and a 12-year-old boy were bitten by the animal, which a police spokesman said was “humanely destroyed”.

Footage captured by an onlooker showed a large police presence, including multiple officers carrying firearms, in Pentrebane Road in Fairwater , Cardiff , shortly before 3.30pm on Sunday.

Police confirmed four people needed hospital treatment for their injuries and the animal, which is believed to have been a pet belonging to at least some of those who were bitten, was put down.

A neighbour said he heard what he described as a “big explosion” as the police entered the property, with at least five force vehicles parked in the street nearby.

The same onlooker said it sounded like a controlled explosion as there was not screaming or shouting. He said he later saw people limping while leaving the house and said one man had a large cut above his eye.

A South Wales Police spokesman said they had been called to reports of a “disturbance” and added: “None of the injuries are life-threatening nor life-changing. Firearms officers attended the property and the dog was humanely destroyed.

“Inquiries into the incident are continuing.”
