Armed police called as 20 people involved in mass street brawl

Armed police rushed to the scene after reports of a mass brawl involving 20 people.

Police said they were called out 12.30pm today after receiving a number of calls about a large disturbance on Factory Lane in Widnes.

Officers, supported by armed police, arrived on the scene to find there had been a fight involving around 20 people.

As well as reports of a police helicopter, around seven police vehicles - including armed response units - were at the scene and an area of Factory Lane was cordoned off by police.

Two men were arrested and there are no reports of any serious injuries at this time.

Residents on social media said the police helicopter circled around Factory Lane area early this afternoon.

One member of a local crime watch group posted: “Just passed on derby rd. Police shut the road just past Aldi, lots of cop cars at Factory Lane turning.”

Another commented: “It's horrific. Loads [of] armed police. God, where are we living at all.”

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “At 12.30pm on Monday 3 August police received a number of reports of a large disturbance on Factory Lane, Widnes.

“Local officers, supported by armed police, were deployed to the scene and on arrival they found that there had been an altercation involving around 20 people.

“Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident.”
