Armed police called and three arrested after reports man seen with gun in Sunderland house

Police have arrested three people after reports a man was seen with a handgun inside a property in Sunderland.

Armed police descended on a house on Belvedere Road, Sunderland, yesterday (August 16) shortly after 7.45pm after reports a man was in possession of a handgun.

Officers searched the property and a weapon was recovered.

Three men aged 22, 23 and 28 were arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm.

No one was injured as a result and the men arrested by police remain in custody.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Shortly after 7.45pm yesterday we received a report a man was believed to be in possession of a handgun inside a property on Belvedere Road, Sunderland.

"Officers from the neighbourhood policing team attended the scene alongside specialist firearms officers and following a search of the property, three males aged 22, 23 and 28 were arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm and a weapon was recovered.

"No one was injured as a result of this incident.

"Three men remain in police custody at this time helping officers with their enquiries."
