Armed police called and properties searched after assault in Bridgend town centre

Armed police have been sent to Bridgend after an assault in the town centre.

South Wales Police said they are investigating an assault reported shortly after 8.15am on Thursday.

A spokesman said officers are now searching "a number of properties" in connection with the incident.

Armed officers have also been sent to the scene. Police said this was as a "precaution" for the safety of officers and the public.

The Welsh Ambulance Service said one patient was treated at the scene on Market Street.

A spokeswoman said: "We were called today at approximately 8.17am to reports of a patient needing medical assistance on Market Street, Bridgend.

"We responded with one emergency ambulance and the patient was treated on scene.”
