Armed police called after group of men spotted with machete in Cardiff

Armed police were called to a busy road in Cardiff after reports of a group of men carrying a machete.

A large police presence, including armed officers, was reported on Greenway Road in Rumney on Tuesday morning.

Following a local search, a 27-year-old man has been taken into custody and enquiries are continuing. Nobody is thought to have been injured in the incident.

Reports on social media described a "massive police presence" on Greenway Road and also said armed officers were seen on nearby Hendre Road.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said armed police were deployed "as a precaution".

They said: "At around 10.35am today a report was received of a group of three young men in possession of a machete on Greenway Road in the Rumney area.

"Officers were deployed to the area, supported by specialist armed police as a precautionary measure.

"Following a localised search, a 27-year-old local man has been taken into custody and enquiries are continuing.
