Armed police called after fight breaks out near flats

Two men were taken to hospital after a fight broke out in a St Helens street.

Armed police were initially called to the scene, on Lower Hall Street , at around 10.45am after initial reports of a firearm.

However armed police officers were stood down and other officers attended a domestic related incident involving a number of men who were involved in a fight.

Emergency services , including paramedics, arrived at the scene and two men were treated and then taken to hospital.

Merseyside Police said their injuries are believed to be "minor" however they continue to be looked after by staff and their condition is described as stable.

Officers remained at the scene for a number of hours following the incident to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
