Armed police arrest man after six-hour standoff over suspected firearm in Carshalton

A man has been arrested after armed police surrounded a home in Carshalton following an alleged assault and the presence of a firearm.

Officers were called to Bramblewood Close at 8:45am on Thursday after receiving reports of an assault at a residential address.

The incident escalated when the suspect produced what appeared to be a firearm, forcing officers to call in armed backup.

Following nearly six hours of negotiations, specialist armed officers arrested the suspect at around 2:50pm on suspicion of firearms offences.

Police have since recovered what they believe to be an imitation firearm from the scene.

No serious injuries were reported during the incident and multiple cordons have since been placed around Buckhurst Avenue and Bramblewood Close.
