Armed police arrest knife wielding woman in Maesteg shop

A woman has been arrested after threatening a shop-keeper with a knife in Maesteg.

South Wales Police and armed officers were called to the Katko Mini Market on Bethania Street, Maesteg at around 10.00am on Saturday May 9.

Police responded to a report of a female with a knife demanding money from the till.

Fortunately, no-one was injured and nothing was stolen.

A 38-year-old was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery  and remains in police custody.

A spokesperson from South Wales Police said: "At around 10am, police were called to the Katko Mini Market on Bethania Street to a report of a female with a knife demanding money from the till.

"No-one was injured and nothing was stolen. A 38-year-old local woman was arrested on suspicion of attempt robbery and she remains in police custody.

"Armed officers attended as a precaution to ensure the safety of officers and the public.

"Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact South Wales Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting occurrence *0159478."
