Armed police arrest boy, 16, after male 'threatened with handgun'

A male was allegedly threatened in the street by a 16 year-old youth armed with a handgun.

Armed officers were called to Lingford Close on the Netherley estate at 2.30pm today, following reports of an "altercation" in the street involving a weapon.

A police spokesperson said: "We have arrested a 16 year-old male on suspicion of possession of a section one firearm.

"We were called to Lingford Close in Netherley at 2.30pm today, Saturday 21 March, to reports that a male had been threatened in the street by someone armed with a handgun.

"There is no suggestion that the gun was discharged and nobody was injured or any damage reported.

"An investigation is underway and house-to-house and CCTV enquiries are being carried out in the local area.

"The 16 year-old is currently in custody where he will be questioned by detectives."
