Armed police and negotiators called as man 'barricaded' inside Scottish town flat

ARMED police have arrested a man after he “barricaded” himself within a Scottish town flat.

Negotiators were also sent out to the flat in Motherwell on Monday after police attended the Shields Drive property acting on a warrant.

Police said that two men were inside the flat, and one, a 41-year-old, had proceeded to lock himself inside.

After armed police and trained negotiators were sent out, he was later arrested.

Officers said no injuries were reported.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.30pm on Monday, May 19, 2025, officers acting on warrant attended a flat on Shields Drive, Motherwell.

“One of the two men within the flat barricaded himself within the property.

“Negotiators and firearms officers attended to assist and the 41-year-old man was later arrested in connection.

“No one was injured during this incident.

“Local residents are thanked for their patience while officers dealt with this incident.”
