Armed police and helicopter scrambled to 'serious assault' in Skewen which left a man in hospital

Armed police responded to a ‘serious assault' near Neath today, which left a man in hospital.

The South Wales Police helicopter was scrambled to the incident, following calls to emergency services at 11.35am.

The incident took place in Cardonnel Road. A man has been arrested.

One resident described seeing armed police in Cae Nant Terrace, approximately half a mile from where the arrest is understood to have taken place.

Anthony Harvey said: “The helicopter was around for some time, so I knew something was going on.

“I went to the chippy, and when I came back there were police disarming.

“It’s not really the sort of thing you see in Skewen on a Wednesday afternoon”.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: “One male has been taken to Morriston Hospital and a 33-year-old man has been arrested.

“Anyone with information should contact 101 quoting occurrence 2000174002”.
