Armed police and helicopter called to reports of group of men with a firearm in Handforth

Armed police and the police helicopter were called to reports of a group of men carrying a firearm in Cheshire.

There was a large police presence seen on Hampson Crescent, in Handforth, on Wednesday, April 29.

An eyewitness told police no threats were made, but they believed the group of men were in possession of a fire arm.

Local officers, armed police and the police helicopter, were called to the scene at around 7.30pm.

The men were located at a nearby address.

Police spoke to the group and discovered the weapon was a BB gun.

The group agreed to hand it over to officers voluntarily to be destroyed.

No arrests have been made.

A statement released by Cheshire Constabulary said: "At around 7.30pm on Wednesday, April 29, officers were called to report of a group of men acting suspiciously on Hampson Crescent.

"The caller reported that no threats had been made but they believed the men were in possession of a firearm.

"Local officers, supported by armed officers and the police helicopter, attended the scene and located the men at an address in Handforth.

"After speaking to the group it was found that it was a BB gun, which the group agreed to hand over to officers voluntarily to be destroyed."
