Armed police and ambulances respond to 'disturbance' at home in New Moston

Armed police and ambulances are responding to a 'disturbance' at a home in New Moston.

There has been a large emergency services presence at the junction of Annesley Road and Broadway since around 4.30am.

It includes firearms officers, dog units and several 'incident response units' from North West Ambulance Service.

The activity appears to relate to a property on Annesley Road, which remains behind a cordon.

Witnesses said as many as 10 or 11 police vehicles have arrived at the scene since the incident began.

New Moston Primary School has been closed due to the ongoing incident.

The headteacher Miss Maynard wrote on the school's Facebook page: "For everybody’s safety I have made the decision to keep school closed today due to a nearby police incident.

"Please stay home and stay safe. School will hopefully be reopened tomorrow. Thank you and apologies for the short notice"

One neighbour said they first saw police at around 8am: "There were no sirens, they just appeared.

"Nobody seems to know what's going on.

"I've had two mates on the phone asking."

"All stood outside talking."

"They waited and then the marked ones drove in.

"When I looked outside I saw all the ambulances.

"That street is really quiet, families and that."

A spokesperson for GMP said: "At around 4.30am on Monday 8 February 2021, police were called to a disturbance on Annesley Road, Manchester.

"Officers are in attendance."
