Armed officers, police dog and helicopter involved in manhunt after alleged assault in Baglan

UPDATE: A 30-year-old man has been charged with wounding and possession of a knife in a public place in connection with this incident.

A man has been taken to hospital following an alleged assault which prompted a huge police response.

Armed officers, a police dog and police helicopter were scrambled following the incident in Hawthorn Avenue in Baglan shortly after midnight this morning.

A 25-year-old man was taken to hospital with injuries described as ‘non-life threatening’.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: "The suspect had left the scene and a search was carried out to locate him which included armed officers, a police dog and the police helicopter.

“At around 3am a 30-year-old man was arrested in Victoria Road area on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm”.

The area remained sealed off this morning with police stopping anyone from entering.

"Hawthorn Avenue is currently closed while our investigation continues," added the spokesman.

The road is shut from Sycamore Crescent to Greenwood Road.
