'Gunfire sounds' as armed police attend incident in Neath

A man has been arrested after police were called to a disturbance at an address in Neath.

South Wales Police and armed officers attended the address on Windsor Road, Neath at about 10.20pm on Sunday, April 19.

At the time of the incident, there were numerous reports from residents of a helicopter circling the Neath area and sounds described as "gunfire".

Police deployed a specialist munitions distraction device which they say sounded like gunfire. Police say no firearms were discharged.

It is believed that at least five police vehicles attended the scene with the entrance to Windsor Road - near to the A474 - blocked off. A man was arrested as a result and remains in custody.

South Wales Police said: "At about 10.20pm yesterday (Sunday April19) we were called to an address in Windsor Road, Neath to reports of a disturbance.

"Armed officers attended to assist in resolving the incident and deployed a specialist munitions distraction device which sounded like gunfire. No firearms were discharged during this incident.

"A 31-year-old man was arrested and remains in police custody. Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with this matter."
