Armed man threatens staff and steals cash in terrifying petrol station robbery in Co Dublin

A man threatened staff with a knife in a terrifying robbery at a petrol station in Co Dublin.

The incident happened in the Portmarnock area at around 9pm on Friday.

Gardai say that a man entered the store armed with a knife and threatened workers, before leaving with a sum of cash.

He then met a second man and both left the scene.

Officers from the area as well as the garda dog unit and Air Support Unit launched a search.

A short time later they found both men hiding and they were arrested.

The two men, one in their early 30s and the other in their early 40s, are currently being held at Swords and Coolock Garda Stations.

A garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí in Malahide have arrested two men (early 40s and early 30s), following a robbery of a service station in Portmarnock, Dublin last night, Friday 19th June, 2020.

"At approximately, 9p.m. one male entered the premises, armed with a knife and threatened staff, leaving the shop with a sum of cash. The man met with a second man and both left the scene. In a follow-up search of the area Gardaí assisted by a number of units, including the Garda Dog Unit and the Air Support Unit, located the men hiding and they were arrested.

"Both men are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Swords Garda Station and Coolock Garda Station.

"Investigations ongoing."
