Armed man steals ambulance and hits bystanders before police open fire in Oslo

An armed man has stolen an ambulance and driven it at multiple people in a busy city, according to reports.

A child, who was in a pram, is among those injured and dashed to hospital.

Emergency services are desperately trying to calm the chaotic situation in Oslo, Norway.

Witnesses said they've also heard gunshots. A police helicopter has been spotted scouring the vicinity.

Photos show a disturbing crime scene in the Torshov area of the city.

"An ambulance was stolen in Oslo and is now out there hitting people.. great," one resident tweeted.

Video captured at the scene by a shocked witness shows police officers dart in and out of a van.

It then drives away with blue sirens on.

The clip also appears to show roads closed in Torshov.
