'Armed' man holding 'plank of wood' outside elderly woman's house

An elderly woman was disturbed to find a man holding a "plank of wood or brick" outside her house late at night.

The unknown man was caught on a Ring doorbell banging on the elderly woman's windows and doors at around 10.30pm on Saturday, January 8.

Cheshire Police were called to the house on Heath Road South in Runcorn but by the time they arrived the man had left the scene.

A relative of the elderly woman took to the Facebook page Crimewatch Liverpool to warn residents of the man's suspicious behaviour.

Cheshire Police told the ECHO there were no reports of weapons but the relative wrote on the Facebook post the man was holding a "plank of wood or brick."

The man, who wrote the elderly woman "in her 90s" was his partner's nan.

He said: "The other day I had a family member who is in her 90s have this bloke banging on her door at 10.30pm with a plank of wood or brick in his hand demanding he was let in.

"If it was not for one of those ring door bells this could be a very different post."

The man later added: "Another thug praying on the old and potentially vulnerable people.

"Let's hope he gets caught as if he gained entrance I sadly think my partner's nan would definitely be laid up in hospital.

"People like this pray on the old. Make sure your loved ones are secure and taken care of at night please."

Other commenters shared the man's fears, with one writing: "Disgusting. Hope the lady is okay and not too shaken. Karma will catch him up hopefully."

Another comment read: "Thank god she didn't let the rat in. Hope she's okay and getting over the shock."

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police told the ECHO : "At 11.46pm on Saturday, January 8 police were called to reports of suspicious activity at an address on Heath Road South in Runcorn.

"The caller reported that an unknown man was banging on his windows and door at around 10.30pm that night.

"The caller, a 53-year-old man, opened his door and confronted the man, who didn't appear to speak English and subsequently left the scene.

"During the call there were no reports of any threats and there weren't any reports of any weapons.

"The man was described as a black man aged in his 20’s and around 5’ 10” tall.

"He was wearing a white bandanna/scarf on his head, a dark jacket and jeans."
