Armed home invader overpowered by resident in Canaryville

Dec. 26--A man who put a gun to a teenage girl's head during a home invasion in the Canaryville neighborhood this week was arrested after another resident of the home overpowered him, according to court records.

The attack happened Tuesday in the 4400 block of South Wallace Street, when Daniel Rodriguez, 18, and two other intruders broke into a home. Rodriguez grabbed the 17-year-old girl and put her in a headlock and then placed a gun to her head, prosecutors said.

According to a police report, Rodriguez told the girl to "Give me all your money!"

But Rodriguez was taken down by a 30-year-old man who also lives at the home, who held him until police arrived, prosecutors said. Rodriguez was taken to Mercy Hospital with a head laceration he received during a struggle with the resident, police said. He was arrested about 10 p.m. Tuesday, according to police.

Rodriguez was wearing a mask at the time of the attack, which was removed by the resident, prosecutors said.

The two other intruders escaped, prosecutors said.

Rodriguez, of the 3300 block of South Hoyne Avenue in the McKinley Park neighborhood, was ordered held on $1 million bond in a hearing before Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. on Thursday.
