Armed guards will be stationed at hotels to enforce Covid quarantining

Armed guards will be stationed at hotels to enforce Covid quarantining.

And the unbelievably strict room lockdown will last up to 14 days.

There may also be private security guards hired to make sure people obey the strict quarantine and self-isolation rules they will be subjected to.

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar revealed the details to reporters at a press conference this morning.

He was speaking about the upcoming provisions that will have to be unfortunately introduced in the battle to keep the virus out of our country.

Mr Varadkar was explaining the harsh realities of what quarantining in a hotel really means.

He said: “Mandatory hotel quarantining is a euphemism in a way.

“It involves armed guards, it involve security, it involves people being detained in a locked room for 14 days, having your meals provided.”

If you come from a country with the highest risk of Covid you must stay in a State-nominated hotel for 14 days, which the Tánaiste revealed is currently just Citywest.

There are two hotels onsite at Citywest, the regular hotel and a golf course hotel.

He said that more may be soon added to the list, possibly closer to the airport.
