Armed Gardai swoop to arrest duo at Newbridge apartment as man found with slashed jaw and neck

Armed Gardai rushed to an apartment arresting two men after a serious early morning Kildare assault.

Just after midnight, Gardai and Emergency Services came across a man in his 30s on Eyre Street in Newbridge who had received lacerations to his jaw and neck.

He was brought by ambulance to Tallaght Hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Follow-up operations saw the Armed Support Unit and local Gardai swooping to make arrests at an apartment in Powers Court, Newbridge.

The arrested men in their 20s and 30s are currently being quizzed and the apartment has been declared a crime scene by Gardai.

A Garda spokesman said: "Gardai have arrested two men following an alleged assault on a man in his 30s in Newbridge, Co Kildare on Tuesday 27 April.

"The apartment has been declared a crime scene and is currently preserved for forensic examination.

"Both men were taken to Newbridge Garda Station where they are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. They can be held for up to twenty four hours."

He added: "Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to contact Newbridge Garda Station (045) 431 212 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111."
