Two men have been arrested and a GSOC investigation has been launched after an incident in a town this evening.
Armed gardai swarmed The Spa area of Mallow in Co Cork after 8pm this evening.
A Garda fired a single shot during the incident.
Cork Beo reports a man in his 40s has suffered non life-threatening injuries.
Two men have been arrested.
Gardai said they were "investigating all the circumstances of the incident" and GSOC has been notified.
A statement read: "Gardai in Mallow are currently at scene of an incident that occurred this evening Thursday 21st May, 2020 at approximately 8.30pm at Spa, Mitchelstown Road, Mallow when a Garda firearm discharged one single shot.
"Gardai are investigating all the circumstances of this incident at this time.
"Two men have been arrested and are currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 at Mallow Garda station.
"Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission have been notified and are at the scene of the incident and will conduct their investigation into the discharge of a Garda firearm.
"No further comment at this time."
