Armed Gardai storm Irish house as drugs worth almost €25k seized in major raid

A man in his 50s has been arrested after armed gardai stormed a house in Cork City where they seized almost €25,000 worth of illegal drugs.

Members of the Garda Divisional Drug Unit – assisted by the Armed Support Unit – blitzed a house in Churchfield on Sunday, where they discovered Diamorphine with an estimated street value of €23,000.

A man was arrested at the scene and taken to Mayfield Garda Station, where he's currently being detained, a Garda spokesperson confirmed.

The raid took place at around 11.45am, amid ongoing intelligence-led operations targeting drug dealing in Cork City.

The spokesperson added: "During the operation Gardaí searched an address in Churchfield, Cork under warrant and one arrest was made. Illegal drugs were recovered which were Diamorphine with an estimated street value of €23,000 (subject to analysis).

"One man (early 50s) was arrested at the scene and was taken to Mayfield Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 2 Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996."

Investigations are ongoing.

Today's raids come after armed Gardai hit a whopping 10 houses in Offaly last Friday, in a drug raid that saw three people arrested and cocaine and cannabis seized.

The search operation involved Gardai across several different departments and resulted in the arrests of three men aged 49, 33 and 36.

The raids came as part of an ongoing operation designed to target criminality and anti-social behaviour in Tullamore Town.

Gardai from the Armed Support Unit, Garda Dog Unit, Air Support unit, Laois/Offaly Drugs Units and District Detective unit – as well as regular units in Tullamore – joined in the searches.
