Lockdown shopping Ireland: Armed Gardai storm Aldi car park arresting driver after high speed chase

Armed Gardai stormed an Aldi car park hunting a disqualified driver who ended up leading them on a big chase over the weekend.

Officers on an armed crime patrol in Meath observed the driver heading into the car park at around 10am on Sunday morning.

Gardai asked the car to stop but it failed to do so, taking off at speed through Trim town centre.

The driver was followed at a safe distance by Gardai who managed to intercept the car outside the town and arrested one man who was subsequently charged.

The vehicle was seized and a follow-up search of the vehicle uncovered screwdrivers and a knife in the front.

A Garda spokesman said: "The driver was charged with a number of road traffic offences including dangerous driving and offences under the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act."
