Armed Gardai search five Dublin premises arresting three as part of worldwide probe into illegal immigration

Three men were arrested as part of multi-country investigations into an organised crime gang with suspected links to illegal immigration.

A number of items including suspected false documents, telephones, financial documentation, and cash were seized after officers searched six premises - five of which were located in Dublin.

Three men, aged 52, 46, and 26, were taken in by officers from the Garda National Immigration Bureau this morning and are being held at a number of Dublin garda stations.

The organised crime gang is suspected of undertaking illegal immigration through the Common Travel Area.

A major international probe was launched by the Cross Border Joint Agency Task Force and is supported by Europol.

Additionally immigration Enforcement within the UK’s Home Office undertook related searches this morning also.

Assistant Commissioner John O'Driscoll, Head of Organised & Serious Crime said: "This operation was undertaken by the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) with a view to protecting the common travel area operated by the UK and Ireland from being exploited by organised crime groups who are suspected to be involved in facilitating illegal immigration”.
