Armed gardai raid 12 locations in massive operation targeting organised crime gang

A task force that involved various policing units conducted a successful operation into organised criminal gangs in Longford where they discovered over €10,000 cash, €78,000 restrained in bank accounts, cars and more.

The operation was conducted by the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB), with the help of the Emergency Response Unit, Regional Armed Support Unit, local Gardaí, the Stolen Motor Vehicle Investigation Unit and the Customs Dog Unit.

The task force searched 12 properties in Longford on Thursday, July 29.

During the operation, the authorities discovered and seized the following; €10,000 cash, over €78,000 restrained in bank accounts, 212 Ford Focus (€26,400), 172 Nissan Navara (€27,000), three Rolex watches, a cherry picker, financial documents and electronic devices.

This operation was conducted as part of an ongoing Criminal Assets Bureau investigation into criminal assets.

The properties that were searched were previously linked to a significant organised crime gang that's based in the Midlands.

In a statement, the Gardai said that this criminal syndicate are believed to be involved in the sale and supply of drugs and vehicle crime.

A spokesman said: "The Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB), with the assistance of the Emergency Response Unit, Regional Armed Support Unit, local Gardaí, the Stolen Motor Vehicle Investigation Unit and the Customs Dog Unit conducted a search operation today, Thursday 29th July 2021.

"In the course of the operation twelve locations in Co Longford were searched and resulted in the seizure of the following items:

  • €10,000 cash
  • Over €78,000 restrained in bank accounts
  • 212 Ford Focus (€26,400)
  • 172 Nissan Navara (€27,000)
  • 3 Rolex watches
  • A Cherry picker
  • Financial documents and electronic device

"This morning’s operation was conducted as part of an on-going Criminal Assets Bureau investigation into assets, including properties linked to a significant midlands based Organised Crime Gang believed to be involved in the sale and supply of drugs and vehicle crime."
