Armed gardai called to Cork pharmacy after knifepoint robbery as two arrested

A man and a woman were arrested by gardaí in connection with an armed robbery at a pharmacy in Cork City on Saturday.

Gardaí received reports that a man had entered a pharmacy in Douglas, held the staff at knifepoint and stole prescription tablets, shortly before 10pm.

Gardaí from Douglas, along with the Armed Support Unit, attended the scene at the time of the incident, but no suspects were located .

However gardaí began investigating CCTV from the area and carried out a search of a house in Cork City, where they arrested a man, 30s, and a woman, 20s, in connection with the incident.

A quantity of tablets were also recovered.

The pair were brought to Togher and Bridewell Garda Stations where they were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The man has since been charged and is due to appear before Cork City District Court this morning at 10.30am.

The woman has been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
