Armed Gardai and multiple units storm string of houses in Mayo town as part of drugs operation

Armed Gardai helped search a number of house in Co Mayo on Friday as part of a major operation.

Occupied houses as well as a number of derelict buildings in Ballina were searched during the operation.

Cannabis with an estimayed value of €21,000 and Cocaine valued at €500 were both seized.

A man in his 40s has been arrested in connection with the searches and is being held at Ballina Garda Station.

A garda spokesperson said: "The Divisional Drugs Taskforce accompanied by local Ballina Gardaí, the Armed Support Unit and the Garda Dog Unit carried out a number searches at residences and derelict premises in the Ballina area of Co.Mayo on 20 November 2020.

"Gardaí seized suspected Cannabis Herb with an estimated value of €21,000 and Cocaine valued at €500 (all pending analysis) during the course of the searches.

"A 44 year-old man was arrested in connection with these searches and was taken to Ballina Garda Station.

"Investigations ongoing."
