Armed forces and firefighters have helped deliver Covid vaccine in Nottingham

Armed forces and firefighters are helping with the biggest vaccination programme in the country's history here in Nottingham.

Vaccination centres have opened across the county with the rollout now underway for over 80s and 70s to get the Covid-19 jab.

Nottinghamshire Live visited the site of the Forest Recreation Ground vaccine centre on Sunday, January 24, and saw members of the armed forces helping give out the vaccine.

Associate Chief Nurse and ICS Vaccination Lead Coordinator for the NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, Tracy Madge, said in a tweet on January 23: "Today Forest Rec Notts Covid vaccination site did over 570 75+yrs vaccinations on day two, our city residents getting the vaccine as fast as we can deliver it.

"All our sites at full steam thanks to all, esp. our military team, so proud."

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service's Chief Fire Officer, John Buckley, also said in a tweet on January 27: "From today (Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service) staff will be working in the vaccination centres across Nottinghamshire supporting communities in the fight against Covid."
