Armed cops swoop on house near Toryglen nursery after man 'armed with gun walks into building'

Armed police have swooped on a property in Toryglen amid reports of a man entering a nursery carrying a gun and a machete.

Officers were called to Southside Boxing Summer Camp and Orchard Grove Kindergarten, both within a building at Toryglen Community Base, to reports of an armed man.

The suspect is alleged to still be at large after entering the building in the Prospecthill Circus area of Toryglen and running off into a woodland area.

Residents told the Daily Record they first saw a helicopter circling the area around 10.45am this morning.

Armed officers have now surrounded a property opposite the nursery in the residential street.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10am on Wednesday, 7 July, we received a report of a man in possession of what appeared to be a weapon in the Prospecthill Circus area of Glasgow.

“Officers are in attendance carrying out enquiries and providing reassurance to the community. Anyone who may have been in the area and saw anything which might help with enquiries is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident 0825 of 7 July.”
