Armed cops storm tram stop following reports of man with gun

Armed cops stormed a tram stop in Tameside following reports of a man with a gun.

Police were called to the Metrolink stop on Edge Lane in Droylsden at around 2.25pm on Tuesday.

Officers searched the area and arrested a man, 21, in Ashton town centre on suspicion of possession of prohibited weapon.

He is understood to have been carrying CS gas.

A GMP spokesman said: "Police were called to the Metrolink Stop on Edge Lane, Droylsden at around 2.25pm on Tuesday 30 April 2019, to reports that a man was possibly in possession of a gun. 

"Officers attended and after a search of the area, arrested a man aged 21 in Ashton town centre on suspicion of possession of prohibited weapon.

"He remains in police custody for questioning."
