Armed cops seal off Wishaw street amidst reports of gunshots fired

A residential area of Wishaw was sealed off late on Wednesday night following a shooting incident.

Armed officers and others in what has been described as “riot gear” descended on Gateside Road in the Craigneuk area of the town following reports of a disturbance and a gun being fired.

Residents living nearby took to social media and reported that police had sealed off the area, with a police helicopter circling in the vicinity.

On Thursday morning a police presence remained at the scene and it was confirmed that a report had been received that a firearm had been discharged during a disturbance.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.30pm on Wednesday, July 14, police received a report of a disturbance and gun shots being fired on Gateside Road, Craigneuk, Wishaw.

“Specialist officers attended and there was no trace of anyone injured.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland through 101, quoting incident number 3502 of Wednesday, 14 July, 2021.

"Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
