Armed cops race to Motherwell street amid reports of machete attack

Armed police have swooped on a residential estate amid reports of a man being stabbed with a machete.

It is understood cops were called to the attack in McClurg Court in Motherwell on Friday night.

Residents reported seeing up to 10 police cars and riot vans racing into the street.

A helicopter circled the area from above.

It is understood the victim and another man were rushed to hospital after the incident in the Lanarkshire town.

A source said: "Some guy went mental with a machete and chopped someone's hand off.

"It happened at McClurg Court.

"The helicopter was out looking for the guy."

And one local said on Twitter: "Anyone in Motherwell near Levi spar area watch oot, 10 police cars down harvest drive, riot vans, armed police, helicopter and a guy in a grey trackie running about been stabbed with a machete. happy Friday."

Police Scotland have been approached for comment.
