Armand Gnanduillet targets Hearts cup run as he opens up on Scottish 'demands'

Hearts striker Armand Gnanduillet insists he's set his sights on silverware with the club, and reckons they can go far in the Premier Sports Cup.

The Frenchman is yet to play in the tournament after picking up a thigh injury in pre-season but could return for the game with Stirling Albion tonight.

And he believes the club can go all the way and has backed himself to get the goals needed to fire Robbie Neilson's men into the latter stages.

A win on Tuesday night will all but guarantee passage into the last 16, where they will be joined by the likes of Celtic, Rangers and rivals Hibs.

With four games to go to the final after that, Gnanduillet is predicting big things for the Tynecastle outfit.

He told the Edinburgh Evening News: “I am a winner. I really hate losing. I think we have the players, staff and fans to go very far in this cup. If we win tonight we can qualify for the next round, then it is just four games until the final. Anything can happen. I truly believe we can do something this year.

“I travelled a lot with football – France, England, Turkey, South Africa, Scotland. I’m not scared to try a new league. Every time, I want to win and score goals. This is no different.”

The 29-year-old joined Hearts from Blackpool in January and scored five goals in 13 games, but is now aiming for more and believes the demands of the fans are pushing him on.

He added: “I always work hard but now I will have to step up my level in training and games to be ready every week. I know myself. I’m 29 years old, I know what I need to do. Fans always want to see someone work very hard, even if they miss a pass or miss chances. It’s more important what you do after that.

“Scottish people are very demanding of one another. They push you to work hard and I like that. I think the fans want me to repeat what I did last season against some top sides. That’s what I’m waiting for as well.”
