Armagh engineering company creates jobs as demand for generators goes global

An Armagh engineering company is creating 15 jobs as demand for its generator sets grows around the world.

Rapid Power Generation, based in Tandragee, is a division of materials handling company Rapid International and is the latest in a growing number of specialist Northern Ireland companies servicing both sectors.

The four-year old firm makes both diesel and gas generators to provide power in domestic, agricultural, construction and healthcare markets and is on the lookout for talent to fill roles in engineering, design and sales and marketing. The new roles will generate £850,000 in annual salaries.

Barry Taaffe, Director of Rapid Power Generation at Rapid Power Generation, said the company is primed for growth.

“Since setting up in 2019, we have spent the last number of years building relationships and organising a production process which can be scaled up to meet demand,” he said. “We also recognise the global demand for sustainable energy and offer our customer’s natural gas fuelled generator sets.”

The company has been helped by Invest NI which has offered advice and guidance on growing its team.

George McKinney, Invest NI’s Director of Scaling, said the company’s leadership team have many years of experience in the generator market.

“Over the last number of years, Invest NI has been working closely with Rapid Power Generation and we welcome this investment which will take the company from just two employees to a team of 17,” he said. “With global interest in its products, now is the right time for it to grow its team to support sales in export markets including France, Italy, the USA and Canada. Importantly, the company’s growth will have a valuable impact regionally.”
