Armagh county board confirm Jarlath Og Burns released from hospital

The Armagh county board has confirmed that Jarlath Og Burns was released from hospital last night.

The midfielder featured in the Ulster semi-final replay defeat to Cavan yesterday though was replaced late in the game and left the ground in an ambulance.

It came exactly a week after he was replaced in the drawn game after suffering an accidental blow to the head though Armagh assistant manager Jim McCorry claimed it “wasn’t the full concussion” afterwards.

GAA protocols state that a player shouldn’t return to action for at least seven days after suffering a concussion.

An Armagh statement read: "We can confirm that following yesterday's game Jarly Og Burns was taken to hospital.  He was discharged shortly after arrival and returned home last night. Our experienced medical team will continue to assess and monitor Jarly Og."

Speaking on RTE Radio’s Morning Ireland following the round two qualifier draw today, former Armagh star Oisin McConville insisted that the 20-year-old’s hospitalisation had nothing to do with what happened a week earlier.

McConville said: “He was dehydrated, he was exhausted, he was on a drip in the dressing room and he was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. I believe he’s doing fine.

“As far as concussion is concerned, the two incidents weren’t related in any way.”
