Aug. 03--An Arlington Heights man died of injuries suffered Sunday after his motorcycle entered oncoming traffic and hit two vehicles on U.S. Route 14 in unincorporated McHenry County, officials said Monday.
Vincent E. Franchi, 50, was pronounced dead at 11:44 a.m. Sunday at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, according to Lake County Coroner Thomas Rudd.
McHenry County sheriff's deputies responded to the crash on the highway east of Sands Road shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release.
Franchi was traveling eastbound on a Yamaha Raider motorcycle when he entered the westbound lane of travel, striking a Chevrolet TrailBlazer and a Ford Fusion, according to the sheriff's office. "The impact caused the Yamaha to exit the north side of the roadway where it came to a rest in the tall grass," the news report states.
Franchi was not wearing a helmet, according to the sheriff's office.
The driver of the Chevrolet and his passenger, both 45, were not injured and were wearing their seat belts. The driver of the Ford, Thomas A. Wiley, 44, had minor injuries to his left wrist and was treated and released on scene. Wiley was wearing his seat belt, and there was airbag deployment in the vehicle.
The McHenry County Sheriff's Traffic Crash Investigations Unit is investigating.
Members of the Crystal Lake Police Department and the McHenry County Conservation District also assisted at the scene.
