Arkansas (2-1) vs. San Jose State (1-1) Game Preview
Why San Jose State Will Win
It’s not exactly the Alabama passing attack, but San Jose State can throw a little bit.
The Spartans are getting a nice start out of Josh Love for an attack hitting over 60% of its throws with just enough pop to make the Arkansas secondary worry a bit. They’re not throwing picks, and after just two games, they’re getting just enough production on the ground to not be totally one-dimensional.
Can the San Jose State defensive front slow down the run? the Arkansas passing game has improved with Nick Starkel taking over, but the team managed to win by running for over 200 yards. Ole Miss stuffed the ground game, allowing just 61 yards, but …
Why Arkansas Will Win
San Jose State got run over by Tulsa two weeks ago.
The Hog line hasn’t been all that bad so far. It hasn’t been anything amazing, but it’s at least serviceable enough to pound away for Rakeem Boyd, who took off for 100 yards in both wins so far.
But this week is more than being able to just get a win over San Jose State. It’s about getting Nick Starkel some more live work.
The Texas A&M transfer took over for Ben Hicks after the opener and made the passing game go. He has yet to throw a pick, and he’s hitting the downfield passes to open up the offense just enough to show signs of life – at least compared to what it did last season.
With Texas A&M up next, the Hogs are going to take target practice to ramp up the O a bit more, and that shouldn’t be a problem against the soft Spartan secondary.

What’s Going To Happen
San Jose State isn’t the pushover it’s been over the last several seasons, but it won’t keep up once the Arkansas O gets moving.
It’s still not going to be a well-oiled Hog offensive machine, and the Spartans are going to put up the passing numbers to make it more than just a scrimmage. Starkel will get into a groove and everyone will get comfortable in the second half.
