Why Portland State Will Win
Just how much will Arkansas use this as a true scrimmage to get ready for the date at Ole Miss that’s up next? The Hogs can’t and won’t take anything for granted at a 2-10 season, but the offense still has to prove it can produce with a whole slew of different parts after a rough, rough season.
The Vikings are coming off a tough year, too, but at least they’re experienced with 19 returning starters with an interesting Pistol offense that’s fantastic at controlling the clock and can push the passing game down the field.
Arkansas had big problems against anyone who could throw last season, and now it has a young group that has to get up to speed fast.
Why Arkansas State Will Win
The Portland State defense should be picked clean.
For an Arkansas offense that needs a live scrimmage, this should be it. The Vikings were fine as the season went on, but got lit up like a Christmas tree against the more dangerous offenses, giving up 62 to Oregon, 72 to Nevada, and closing out by allowing 74 at home to Eastern Washington.
The Hogs will take target practice on the PSU secondary from the start. The offense should be able to pick its poison, and it should be able to move the chains at will. Defensively, the line and front seven should be a rock right away.
What’s Going To Happen
The Arkansas quarterbacks will see real action. Ben Hicks, Ty Starkel, and John Stephen Jones will get to wing it around, the offense will score early to make this easy, and the Hog fans will get to finally have a little bit of fun.
