Officials in Arkansas are scrambling to respond to an incident in which two police officers were shot. The extent of their injures was not immediately known.
Reports said that the suspect believed to have shot the officers was still at large and was being hunted by police. The incident took place on a quiet rural road in the west of the state.
KFSM Television said the gunman shot one Sebastian County deputy and the Hackett chief of police at around 7.15 am. No other details were immediately released.
It is not clear what led to the shooting, which happened between the towns of Greenwood and Midland, about150 miles west of Little Rock.
