Arizona (0-1) vs. Northern Arizona (1-0) Game Preview
Why Northern Arizona Will Win
NAU has an interesting collection of offensive options.
Former Oklahoma State QB Keondre Wudtee was the team’s leading rusher in the win over Missouri State, but it was Case Cookus who came up with the big performance, completing 18-of-29 -passes for 290 yards and two scores to Brandon Porter, who caught six passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns, and three a touchdown pass.
Can the Arizona secondary get hit hard for a second straight game?
NAU doesn’t have the air show Hawaii does, but it has the ability to bomb away with the dangerous group of receivers able to stretch the field. The Wildcats came up with four picks, but time and again, the pass defense couldn’t produce.
The Lumberjacks have to keep on throwing and keep on pushing, and they have to hope for the Wildcats to implode.
Why Arizona Will Win
Northern Arizona will make a whole slew of mistakes. It might not turn it over six times like Hawaii did, but it’ll commit a ton of penalties, it’ll struggle to keep the chains moving, and forget about any semblance of a running game.
Arizona has to fix the glitch against the pass, and it’s had a long time to do that after the Hawaii debacle.
There will be more pressure, and there will be more of a pass rush, and on the other side, there will be more from the running backs. JJ Taylor isn’t going to be held to just 67 yards this week, and …

What’s Going To Happen
Khalil Tate will be even stronger. He was fantastic in the loss – even with two picks – with 361 yards and 108 rushing yards. He needed that to be 109 yards on the ground, but this won’t be that close this time around.
Arizona desperately needs a layup win, and this will be it. After sitting around for two weeks on the loss to the Rainbow Warriors, it’ll be a cathartic win with the explosion needed before dealing with Texas Tech next week.
