Why Sacramento State Will Win
There are tune-ups, and there’s what Sacramento State had last week in a 77-19 win over Southern Oregon. The defense might have struggled a wee bit, but the offense got to bomb away and hit big play after big play.
No, the Hornets aren’t anything special and won’t beat Arizona State, but they have the passing game to at least push the ball down the field.
Kevin Thomson led a passing game that put up 340 yards and averaged 15 yards per pass – and that’s what ASU needs. Kent State wasn’t able to throw all that well last week, and the Sun Devils could use a little bit of work for the secondary.

Why Arizona State Will Win
The Sacramento State secondary isn’t going to do much to come up with any stops.
Arizona State wasn’t totally awful in the 30-7 win over Kent State, but it certainly wasn’t a razor-sharp performance. Freshman Jayden Daniels was strong, Eno Benjamin got 22 carries and hit the 100-yard mark, and there weren’t a whole slew of issues, but there’s work to do before dealing with the Michigan State defense next week.
