SALT LAKE CITY _ Saint Mary's hung tough with Arizona for the better part of two halves but ran out of fuel before the finish line.
The seventh-seeded Gaels fell 69-60 to the second seeded Wildcats after never trailing in the first half. Arizona will advance to the Sweet 16 to face 11th-seeded Xavier next week.
Freshman center Lauri Markkanen scored 16 points and collected 10 rebounds to lead the Wildcats. Sophomore guard Allonzo Trier added 14 points _ all in the second half _ for Arizona.
Jock Landale finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead Saint Mary's and Calvin Hermanson added 14 points for the Gaels. Saint Mary's (29-5) missed five straight shots over the final 1{ minutes of regulation after cutting Arizona's lead to 65-60 on a Hermanson 3-pointer with 1:54 left.
The Wildcats forced 13 turnovers and scored 15 points off of those turnovers.
