GULLANE, Scotland: Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn is in second place, three shots off the lead, in the second round of the Ladies' Scottish Open.
The world No.3 had six birdies in a round of 65 on Friday to bring her two-day total to 10 under par in the tune-up for next week’s Women’s British Open, the major she won during her breakout season two years ago.
Ariya trails American Tiffany Joh, who followed up a scorching 9-under-par round of 62 on Thursday with a 4-under 67 on Friday.
Caroline Masson of Germany was one stroke behind Ariya at 9 under, while world No.2 Park Sung-hyun and fellow Korean Amy Yang were at 8 under. Fourth-ranked Ryu So-yeon shot a 66 and sits at 7 under par.
Thai veteran Pornanong Phatlum had a solid second round, going 6 under to improve to 4 under par heading into the weekend.
However, Moriya Jutanugarn, currently ranked ninth in the world, was on the bubble at 1 over par -- the projected cut line -- after 16 holes.
Joh, who missed the cut at last year’s Scottish Open, has yet to win in nearly a decade on the LPGA Tour.
She has three career top-10 finishes, including a career-best runner-up result at the 2011 Navistar LPGA Classic.
