Ariana Grande’s Thank U, Next video SMASHES YouTube records

Ariana Grande has smashed records with the video for her new single Thank U, Next.

The Breathin singer dropped the eagerly anticipated video on Friday and paid homage to a string of teen films including Mean Girls, Bring It On, 13 Going on 30 and Legally Blonde.

Many of the films' stars - including Jennifer Coolidge and Jonathan Bennett - made appearances, as did Grande's own celebrity friends.

The video has proved a hit, racking up 829,000 views in just 24 hours before going on to amass over 88 million hits over the weekend.

The track also broke records of its own, spending its fourth week at number one on the UK charts, the longest time for any female artist in 2018.

Thank U, Next is also still number one on Spotify UK and the Global top 50, with 206 million streams.

Grande has since become the most listened to artist worldwide on Spotify, surpassing Selena Gomez’s 46.9 million monthly listeners.

The video saw Coolidge reprise her role from Legally Blonde opposite Grande's reimagining of Reese Witherspoon's Elle Woods.

Grande performed a version of the Bend and Snap move from the film. Witherspoon tweeted to say she "nailed it".

The video also featured a surprise inclusion of Kris Jenner channelling Regina George's mother from Mean Girls. The momager was standing in the audience as she filmed Grande's dance routine with a camcorder. The cameo gained huge public approval, with fans declaring she “saved 2018”.
