Ariana Grande’s new music video mines both of them, helping it on the way to a YouTube record as it reached one million views in less than 34 minutes.
The “thank u, next” video pays tribute to beloved early 2000s romcoms, including Mean Girls, Legally Blonde, Bring It On and 13 Going On 30.
Mean Girls actor Jonathan Bennett (Aaron Samuels) makes a cameo, with Kris Jenner stepping in as Amy Poehler’s “cool mom” character.
“thank u, next”, which has been top of the Billboard Hot 100 since it was released three weeks ago, is a song all about exes, and the video references several of Ariana’s.
Grande makes her very own Mean Girls “burn book”, filled with past loves.
“Sry I dipped,” she says on the page of Pete Davidson, which the internet is reading as meaning it was Ariana who broke off their engagement.
Big Sean apparently “could still get it”, while dancer Ricky Alverez is declared a “friend forever”.
Mac Miller, who died from a drug overdose in September, is described as an “angel” in the song and left out of the burn book.
The video has drawn over 35 million views in less than 14 hours.
